Zeiss SFO63 question.
      #2244925 - 03/08/08 07:37 PM

Hi all!!

I finally received my Zeiss SFO63 Solar filter and I have a question for you all:

It has some very fine pinholes here and there! It seems that the coatings are a bit worn !
I have held it in front of the sun with my hands and if I align those fine scratches and pinholes with the sun just right I can see light coming through!

I am now just afraid to try it as I have never observed the sun and dont know if it will be ok.

Thanks for the help!

E.

It will reduce contrast at least, safe or not, is very depending on how many of them are there.

If you are going to keep it I would black paint out the scratchesd and pinholes it will not hurt the resloution,I used black tape on my mylar filters with no problems, get a second opinion.Good luck. I own a Zeiss Telemator so I know how good it will look,I use a Thousand Oaks Type 1 glass filter on it.

Emanuele

maybe you go to the Telementor Yahoo Group and ask the guys there how many using such SFO with little pinholes, they are cosmetic, they do not hurt anyhow your eyes and they do not anyhow reduce visible the contrast, they are present in very many solarfilters, some coating companys even tell you upfront that they can show up during coating procedure

regards
Markus

Thanks all and thank you Markus!

I know I have asked you this before Markus, but I just wanted to here some different opinions here. I'm a bit taken by looking at SOL for the first time !
