Okay. Well I tried again with beaucoup Moon and a BIG FAT cloud that rolled in soon after sundown. My limiting zenithal mag here at the house is 5.7 and I have a big Ft Worth light dome in the east. I used a combo of a 4.5in f8 reflector and 9X63 binos, M45 was eyeballed as usual. Temps were pretty good throughout the night having to only don a light jacket, mostly to keep the dew off. I missed the post sunset tinies and dimmies M33, 110, 74, and 76 but the Moon kept me from M1 and 32(both an easy catch with no Moon), then the cloud didn't leave until M34, 103, and 52 were history. I got 82 out of 110 (a solid C+) M77, 45, 31, 79, 42, 43, 78, 41, 50, 47, M46, 93, 48, 35, 37, 36, 38, 44, 67, 94, M63, 3, 65, 66, 106, 53, 64, 51, 82, 81, M49, 68, 104, 13, 92, 5, 105, 60, 96, 95, M61, 59, 58, 89, 87, 86, 84, 100, 85, 83, M57, 56, 29, 39, 27, 71, 107, 12, 10, 14, M9, 4, 80, 19, 62, 6, 7, 11, 26, 16, M17, 18, 25, 23, 21, 20, 8, 28, 22, 69, M70, 54 The stuff in UMa like M108, 109, 97, 101 was just too dim or skinny to pluck out of the sky glow even at the meridian. Ft Worth light dome and a load of trees to the east killed the rest of the list (I would have set up near the driveway turn around to avoid the trees but morning traffic [headlights] would have made it very frustrating. I had a lotta fun. Better luck 29 March. Ed

Hey, good job on your attempt, especially given ambient light conditions! I did about as well on my first marathon but with a lot less light pollution and a 10" scope, so your tally is nothing to sneeze at.
Good luck on the 29th and clear skies.

Thanks Molniya!
I'm going to head to a state park about an hour from here on the 29th. The LVZM there is 6.4 so I'll have better luck with 110, 76, and 33, then 101, 108, 97, and 109 in UMa. The light dome there is to the north and the SE to W is a large open field. (great for the early morning rush of M55, 75, 15, 2, 72, 73, and 30) The weather here on Mar 8th didn't warrant going to the park so I did the back yard thing in the middle of the week when I had a shot. I was amazed at how many I could "see" given the sky glow.
Good luck and clear skies to you and all for your marathon.
