I am in the never-go-there-camp regarding fork mounted scopes and wedges for imaging. Don't want to debate that in this thread - just giving background.
The LX90 appeals to me as a visual only scope. I do not think it is a sturdy as the LX200 classic I used to own, but it has a lot going for it.
I am only interested in the 8" which only weights 31lbs. That is quite light for a OTA + goto fork mount. It is half the weight of my old 10" classic (weight was one of the reasons I sold that).
It is twice as heave as my ETX125, but hopefully the mount will be a lot better (I hate the mount and drives on the ETX125, and am forever on the verge of selling that scope).
Very soon all new LX90s will be ACF. The tube will be 2lbs heavy - not worth bothering about.
BUT as a visual only scope is the ACF worth having?
My gut feeling is no - ACF is more significient if you want to image.
Therefore if I want an LX90 I should by a GPS or non-GPS version that is a few years old and lots lots cheaper.
Anyone able to convince me that the ACF is so much better visual wise that I should either buy new or not buy?

For visual I would get the LX-90 SCT. To save some additional money I would even get an LX-90 LNT or classic LX-90 if GPS isn't needed. An older model with very good optics (when you find one) is better than the GPS or LNT with average optics (or even an LX-200 SCT for visual) - IMHO.
The LX-90 is a significant step up from the ETX models I have owned...
This is the third OTA I have owned and is a very good optical sample. That's why I still have my LX-90. It is a classic that I purchased new. It has never failed me. GoTo and tracking are excellent.
For visual I would look for a used model and confirm that it holds collimation and has good optics.

My 10" R Beat a C11 XLT for visual, not in light gathering ability of course but beat it in sharpness and contrast. it was a unanimous decision of the 3 people at our get together, the other two were celestron owners (one of them the 11 owner).
Yes the benefits are largely for imaging, but don't you want to SEE smaller stars in a wide field eyepiece too?

I've gone for a 8" LX90ACF but will use it for imaging as well.
If you go for the GPS version you should get the free eyepiece kit, they are both the same price.

I have to admit that when and if I ever replace my C8 which rides atop a LXD75, I'll probably look at an ACT....if they get a focal reducer for those pupies:)
