I was trying to think of methods to let us non-solar scope users to see the corona better etc...I came up with a prism to divide the light wavelengths to try to view a narrow speciffic wavelenght but I see its already been invented lol (spectroscopy or something) but I also thought that somehow, blocking the main disk (all filters still in place for safety) to see the corona was logical.....here's an example...it may be stupid but its just a simplified example...if you get an object that is the same diameter as the solar disc, and place it in front of the scope, would this not produce an effect similar to a total eclipse and block the majority of the light entering the scope?....I have a solar filter and a 7nm HA filter and can see some granulation if exposed correctly and focused precisely, but of course, no flares etc....just a thought

It is called a Coronagraph and it was invented by Lyot. The optics need to be highly polished so they scatter very little light and it requires that you observe from a high altitudes so the atmosphere doesn't scatter much light also.
I've built a version of one to observe prominences only.
