This may be old news, although I can't remember seeing it mentioned, but the STEREO mission has 2 satellites, one ahead of the earth and one behind it in it's orbit...Because of this distance separating them, we can actually view a lot more than half of the disk at any time, go here to see: recent STEREO images
If this is old news, sorry to waste the bytes...

Never seen that before Stephen, thanks for posting. Everyone should know what a totally different sun that is! I clicked on the 2048 etc and the detail that shows on my big screen is fantastic! Give it a go people, it's really something else. Thanks again, Stephen! Keith

No more wondering what's coming around the limb, we can see it!...I wonder what % of the sun we can now view, 60%?...75%?!??!...

Ooow, that is cool, pehaps we can make stereo pairs that we can see in 3-D? The spread is a little far apart but perhaps there is a way. Bob, if you see this thread what do you think?

Ok, it is bit if a reach but if you backup from your screen and relax your eye till the circles overlap you can almost make a stereogram out of the image.
I copied these images from:
http://stereo-ssc.nascom.nasa.gov/beacon/beacon_secchi.shtml
Credits go to NASA. I photoshopped them closer together inorder to make the stereo pair work better.
