I am a programmer-analyst  and was lamenting with a co-worker a network slowdown that throwing up the old hour-glass when trying navigate the file structure.
A nearby seated Technical Services employee jokingly blamed sunspots to which I replied "Nice try, we are at solar minimum and the solar disk is devoid of any spots at the moment". Huh? 
Oh well, I don't think there any other astronomers in my office.

Even if there were any other astronomers there, they would have agreed with you. Nothing going on at the moment. There are some nice proms there today though.

I recall a similar situation during the last sunspot minimum with our local cable TV provider. During a public hearing, he "explained" some of the reception problems with a couple of local channels by blaming sunspots, when all along, it was problems with the local tropospheric conditions which brought in distant stations that interfered with the local stations. They could have reduced the problems by using more directional antenna arrays or by lowering the current ones slightly to avoid reception of the more distant signals, but instead, the owner just chose to blame sunspots!
