Smartfinder troubles
      #2277764 - 03/23/08 11:51 PM

hey all,
I have a 125pe that was bought refurbished from opt. Pretty much looks new all over, but I am having trouble aligning the smartfinder unit. The little red dot will sit below the actual object by what looks like a good inch or so. The screws are tightened all the way already and I cannot get it to go up any further. Any tips on what I can do to adjust this? Ive taken the unit apart a few times and the springs are installed correctly but it always ends at the same point.

I had the same problem. I wonder if that's why some people refer to it as the "Stupidfinder". I ended up buying a Rigel Quickfinder and putting that on there.

How did you mount the rigel on the PE? Did you completely remove the Smartfinder/LNT assembly?

They are useless. Remove it and get one of these.

The Rigel came with 2 bases and a couple sections of double-sided tape. The base is stuck on the tube with the tape, and the Rigel quickly attaches to the base. I actually put the Rigel on the opposite side of the tube. I haven't removed the smartfinder yet but probably will.

I'm not sure if the tape will mar the finish (assuming you want to remove the base at some point), I read somewhere it might do that to a sonotube OTA. Honestly, the Rigel looks a little silly sticking up at an angle from the OTA. Maybe I could have mounted it in the middle but wanted to make sure I wasn't bumping my head on it.
