I Love seeing the William Optics 66SD mounted on the Celestron NexStar SLT Mount.

Having the incredible optics of the WO 66 combined with a good light-weight GOTO Mount makes this an outstanding set-up.

I am surprized WO or Celestron havent considered this even if it was using different name brand components.

The ZS66/SLT is fast becoming my favorite grab and go set up. With a small gel cell and WO Zoom EP, I can have the whole thing set up and ready to go in five minutes, from the garage to the back yard (even quicker if I want to deal with the street lights in the driveway). The SLT mount is nice and light, and the GOTOs are very accurate considering the price of the mount.

Now, I just received a new to me ASGT mount this afternoon.....that would kind of be overkill for the ZS66, maybe I'll mount the SV50 on the ASGT instead!

Here is a picture of my new refractor. It is a replica of Galileo's type of instrument. Pretty cool huh?

It is a 20X magnification telescope. As you would expect it isn't as nice as a modern telescope, but it is going to serve the purpose of outreach. With the up coming year being the 400th anniversary of modern Astronomy thanks to Galileo using a similar type of telescope, it will come in handy to use as a prop for discussion.

Plus, it helps me appreciate the amount of deductive reasoning that went into what Galileo's discoveries took.

>He saw craters on the Moon.

>He discovered the rings of Saturn. (He called them ears though)

>He saw that the Milkyway was made up of stars.

>He discovered the Moons of Jupiter (Galean Moons), and figured out that they were orbiting Jupiter.

>He discovered the Phases of venus

>Due to those last 2 discoveries he was able to put the last nail in the coffin of the arguements for earth centric beliefs.

Considering that most of us here have better quality binoculars than his equipment was like, it just astounds me that he accomplished the things he did. Even department store telescopes out perform anything he ever used. Having a working replica is just pretty darned cool to help put his accomplishments into perspective.

That's quite an arsenal, Southmike! Nice collection!

Good catch, Al! The mount looks similar to the vintage Sears EQ setups I see on the Classic Scopes Forum. Have fun restoring it!

Al, it's so good to see someone rescue a scope like that and mount it up. It seems like after having perhaps a rough and neglected life, that old Jason has finally found a loving home!

Okay, there's always one show-off in the group -- Where'd you score that beautiful red 66EDT, Garry? The only other red WO 66mm Triplet I've seen was in Tom T.'s review... That's purdy! I sure like the way they perform, it's a fun little scope...
