I like the way it performs as well - it's my favorite scope.
The same one that Tom used in his review.

This is a "proper" 4" f/7 ED.

This is a used, minty, Pentax SDHF-105. D=105mm; F=700mm. The design consists of an SD doublet and a single field flatener mounted rearward in the OTA. The coatings are Pentax's legendary SMC. Though the design requires longer than a simple doublet to cool down, once at equilibrium it provides sharp, totally flat fields edge to edge with excellent contrast (no matter where Luna is near the edge of the FOV!).

Regards,

Jim

This is the uber-beefy, uber-Everest-like R&P focuser with the Baader adapter installed. Unlike Televue with its racecar knobs and Takahashi with its ultra-light aluminum knobs, these focuser knobs are solid, heavy machined aluminum. The beefiest I've seen. Beefier even than the knobs on the A-P R&P focuser.

Notice the friction brake lever on the right side.

Clean and pristine; this scope used was cleaner than my FS-78 was new. I doubt this scope had ever been under the stars - probably a floor sample in a camera shop or a "spyglass" inside someone's high-rise flat.

So what does one do with an RFT gem like the Pentax? This scope was made for Sagittarius. It does a great job on the multitude of nebulae, open clusters, star clouds and globulars populating the steam of the teapot. This is a scope for lazy summer evenings, cruising the showcase DSOs one after the other. I think it will be a sublime star party/public outreach scope with its generous fields of view and robust, overbuilt construction.

Jim

What's the Pronto going to be when it grows up? A TV102? Seriously, pretty nice optics you have.
