Wooden tripod for my Porta Mount
      #2291094 - 03/29/08 04:15 PM Attachment (32 downloads)

I received the wooden tripod legs form Hands On Optics. After installing them which is a breeze I found the mount no longer flexes. They're well made, especially considering their low price of $79. And they come with a nice metal tray that can be lifted off allowing the tripod to be easily folded for storage. When the skies clear up (it's suppose to rain) I'll let Floyd test them out.

I decided I couldn't wait till the clouds go away so I set up my Porta Mount with its new wooden legs along with my 70mm Vixen refractor and aimed it at a terrestrial object some distance away. Using a 5mm eyepiece I let Floyd go to town. Result: Far less vibration when focusing. I think it went from several second of shaking to about a second and a half. My heavier SV102ED will be tried once it doesn't look like it will start raining at any moment which is the current situation.
