Sorry, but no. The MallinCam is the best, no two ways around it!

Just go ahead and bite the bullet, and get on the waiting list.

John, keep watching astromart, Rick has found 2 for sale in the last few weeks. The problem with that though, is you are getting a used unit and it probably wont have the upgraded amp. I would hold off to get the newest one available. If I were you I would get on the list for a mallincam, and buy either a starshoot II color or a DSI Pro II to hold youover until the mallin comes! THEN when your mallin comes, you will have the best of both worlds!

Like Jon said check A Mart. The one posted is a Pro Dob. Should work on yours as well. $500 is not a bad entry price and can be updated. Peace,Rick.

For near-realtime astro-video, there is also the StellaCam by Adirondack Video Astronomy. The StellaCam III has unlimited exposure time, optional cooling, and a wired remote control for vibration-free parameter adjustments. A wireless remote controller option that can also be PC controlled via RS232 is forthcoming.

The controls are very simple, which makes experimentation intuitive, and cuts down the learning-curve time.

AVA does not make a color camera. However, if one observes with others at a dark site, color may be a moot point if the display needs to be covered.

Best wishes on your astro-video pursuits!

As mentioned, there's the Stellacam III (and predecessors). Now, while I was "in the market" for a livecam, until the Mallincam Color Hyper Pro came out (about four years of pondering), I wasn't ready to write a check. I chose the Mallincam due to performance I was able to observe personally, and confidence in the post-sale support.

i feared that would be the answer. i found a $450 meade dsi imager on sale at telescopes dot com for 99 bucks to tide me over. i hope it has live preview at least i could try to broadcast somthing like the moon or clusters.(my only scope with tracking is a 4") trust me, im ready to write the check but ive had no answers on the phone so it seems difficult to get on the list. i appreciate the replies, clear skies. john

The reason you have not been able to reach Jack H. by phone is due to the fact he is away at a Star Party right now. Try calling next week at this time.He should be back by then. Rick
