Todd, Doesn't Vista have something called XP compatibility mode? So you can run programs that were written for XP. I got a computer with XP because of problems I'd heard with Vista. I bet one of the computer gurus here will jump in with the real skinny. John

The first two work on my week old laptop but NexRemote is giving me an error that Celestron hasn't resolved yet. I also have Meades Autostar software installed and it seems to work

Starry Nights v.5 onwards was no problem. V.4 just would not run properly - not sure if it was Vista or my AMD graphics card. In common with a lot of software, you may need to 'run as administrator' with the install program.
Not sure about the Meade 505/506. I have heard that there are no Vista drivers for the Meade LPI (which you can use for autoguiding with the Autostar), and haven't yet had a chance to try mine on either Vista machine.

If you get TheSky6 or Starry Night, you will probably want to turn off UAC in Vista. Also, another program you might consider is Redshift 6. Both TheSky6 and Redshift 6 work beautifully under Vista.
Regarding Starry Night and Vista - the latest update (patch) to Starry Night 6 seems to solve some intermittent issues with Vista. If you get Starry Night 6, you will most likely want to download and install this patch (to v 6.2.3). With the patch installed, Starry Night 6 runs well with Vista.

Windows Vista Compatibility Starry Night 6.0.6 will run on a Windows Vista computer provided the latest graphics card Vista drivers supporting hardware-accelerated OpenGL are installed. At present, there are Vista drivers that do not support hardware-accelerated OpenGL to the extent required by Starry Night. This is beyond our control.
The following graphics cards have been successfully tested against Starry Night on Windows Vista using latest manufacturer's drivers:
nVidia: 7600, 7300, 6600, 6200 ATI: X1900, X1650, X1550, X1300, X800 (non-AGP only)
By no means is this an exhaustive list. We are certain there are many more cards that will work and we will add more cards to this list as we are able to fully test them.
New Features for Version 6.2:
New Appulse Event Searching alerts you when the Moon is near bright planets New Apollo Space Missions feature lets you explore the trajectories of the Apollo spacecraft not available anywhere else! 6 New Earth Horizon Panoramas let you observe from several interesting new locations 65 New 3-D Asteroid Models let you explore these intriguing celestial bodies New Meteor Showers Update makes your meteor shower observations even better New Extrasolar Planets Update helps you learn even more about planets beyond our Solar System New Equipment Database Update means you can use the software with a growing list of equipment Extended Constellation Descriptions provide more detailed information on all 88 constellations Smooth Window Fading (Win XP, Vista) and Transparent Floating Windows (Vista) will enhance your experience
