I have the LXD-75 goto mount and I did have the AR-5 and then the AR-6. I have sold both OTAs because at my age they are just to much for me to handle. I did keep the mount however! Everything Steve said is true but, He keeps mentioning "what is Meade thinking". What Meade is thinking is that they want to give buyers a VERY reasonably priced setup. The whole shebang at an amazing price! Upgrades can be done as the owner can afford them, just as you did! I bought the Orion 16" pier extension, a MoonLite motorized focuser, the AstroZap dew shield, a WO 2" dialectric diagonal, and some nice eyepieces, all on Astromart for less than half the retail prices! It was fun doing it that way and I must say, if I had to buy the setup new with all that stuff, I never would have had any of it. By the way. I bought the LXD-75 AR-6 two months old for $300 less than retail.

I've done a lot of the things you're talking about. I've got an Antares pier also, but it's the shorter version, and it's very stable.
My AR-5 is the best planetary scope I've had until I purchased my new SV-102. I've kept the AR-5 until now because I have a handicaped friend who finds it easiest to use in a wheelchair.
I've been thinking about selling the AR-5 now that I've got the SV. Still, I'll always remember it for being the first scope that showed me Cassini's division.
Fun read,
Michael
