      #2317047 - 04/10/08 08:35 AM

Waiting on the Mallicam Hyper Plus to arrive and was wondering if any one has tried it on the old Celeston 6" 150HD refractor and the results of it, and will I a MFR-3 and or a 10mm ext.
Thanks
Ronn

As soon as I get some reliable clear skies, I'm going to try the MCHP with my Antares 152 f/6.5 -- I have an MFR3 on the way -- we can compare notes!

I can't wait to hear your results as I'm also waiting for a camera and would love to put one on my C6-R. Jack uses one and it captured some nice images.

Did Jack use a MFR-3 with his C6-R?? I have a Meade 6.3 and a 3.3 focal reducer for the Meade 14" SCT but was going to use them if needed for the CR150HD...so would I need the Mallincam MFR-3 and extension because of it's speciality?

My experience to-date (admittedly only on two scopes, one a 100mm f9 refractor, the other f4.7 254mm dobsonian newt) is that you want to use the MFR3 unless there is a really good reason NOT to...

E.g. if you had Hyperstar (operating at f1.8 or f2.0) already, then you wouldn't...

The more interesting challenge for ANY scope is: do you have enough in/back focus? This is least likely to be a problem on SCTs, most likely to be a problem on Newts, and refractors usually fall in the middle...

clear enough skies

Ronn
I have a TEC 140 AP f7 FL 980 and prefer using the MaillinCam with no FR because most of the DSO's I look at other than a few are fairly small so I get a bigger image that way. With my Celestron Nexstar GPS 8 f10 FL 2000 I use the FR. Just another opion

Back focus could be an issue...thats one reason why I was wanting to know if there would be a problem with the 150HD, along with the MFR-3.

When I use my MallinCams on my CR 150 HD, I have used the Celestrom f/6.3 FR attached to 2" adapters that I had machined. You can now get the parts from ScopeStuff. My CR 150 HD has been slightly modified. I removed the stock Synta focuser and added a Crayford from Apogee (a unit that is no longer available). I don't know if the OTA is now shorter than the factory unit.

Jack, that is what I planned to do also.I bought an Antares 2" Prime Focus Camera Adaper, from Agena Astro Products...if you unscrew the adapter the threads will fit on the FR 6.3 or FR 3.3...but I wasn't sure if I have enough travel. I found on ScopeStuff an adapter ring (FRC6)that should fit the 150HD. That should subtract a least an Inch for the tube. Also I'm going to get 2" Crayford 2 speed focuser(FRM2)...the length looks shorter and much better quality than the piece of junk I have on it now.
Here is the link from ScopeStuff....

That looks like a nice focuser and cheaper than the one I got from Apogee years ago. Plus I had to have a machinist turn down the 4" base to fit the Synta base on the OTA. ScopeStuff has the right adapters at a really low price. Let me know how well it works when you get it installed.

Well I just seen the William Optics on Agena AstroProducts...I might go this way with the ScopeStuff adapter.
