Comet Holmes and Orion's Belt Region new
      #2319726 - 04/11/08 01:49 PM

Here's a couple images I shot back in November and just now got them developed. I have to give thanks to Clownfish for the E200 film recommendation. In comparison with a shot from darker skies and with a longer exposure (30min) on Fuji HQ200, the E200 still showed much more of Bernard's Loop with a 20 min exposure.

All images were taken piggybacked on the 2080 with a 1980's Nikon FM with a 70-210 f/4 lens at f/4. Thankfully the infinity setting on the focus knob is accurate. But I have been wondering why it is capable of focusing past infinity?

Also, I left my Orion's belt region picture uncropped to see what you guys thought about shutting the f/stop down to f/5.6. Would the flatter field be worth the increase in exposure time?

Comet Holmes: 2 min (I think)

Orion's belt region: 20min

For comparison here is a very similar shot (10min more exposure from darker skies).

Also, ignore the red stuff on the right side of the last image. That was a light leak from my light meter inside the camera. I took the battery out of the camera and so in the first image of Orion's belt, the light leak is no longer a problem.

I was wondering what that new nebula west of Orion's belt was. Glad to hear you got it fixed. Keep shooting. Nice work.

Sorry, I was refering to your "light leak" to the right (west) of Orion's belt. Barnard's loop is east of the belt stars.
