This is first light on my brand new Celestron CGEM 800HD. I took this by holding a Canon point and shoot up to the eyepiece with a moon filter.

This picture was taken in October of 2009 with a Meade electronic Eyepiece and no focal reduction through my 8" F/10 SCT. It was recorded to my DVD recorder then captured with a Dazzle capture card. No processing.

This is my very first attempt of DS astrophotography.

It was captured using Pentax K10D and 200/1000 newton on HEQ5 mount. No guiding, only 3 star alignment. Totally 9 frames ~6 min exposure (from 10 to 100 sec). no darks, flats and etc. Stacked with DSS

This is pretty good for your first attempt! Please post the details, scope, camera, mount, exposure settings etc.... Thanks for posting.

Here is my very first attempt at Jupiter. This was taken thru my 5" Orion Starmax 127mm Mak mounted on EQ3 gem.
Used a 2x barlow, imaged at around F/24 for about 90 seconds, processed in Registax. I am a total newbie at imaging, I'm really enjoying learning how to image. These inexpensive little webcams are a great way to dip your foot into the pool without speding alot of money.
My wife put a frame on it for me

This is my very first astrophoto. This is supposed to be M31. I only had 5 - 1minutes subs before the clouds moved in then 10 darks (no bias or flats). This is at ISO800 with the stock 18-55mm lens at 55mm for the XSi.

I am so new at this I haven't even taken a picture with my scope but I did take one of my scope and Cygnus overhead on Aug. 6
Hope to do better after figuring out the scope mount issues and a better camera. This was taken with a Canon Powershot point-n-shoot.

All:

In waiting for my Mallincam to be built/shipped to me, I followed some directions found on the internet to convert a Logitech Pro 9000 web cam for astronomical recording. I finally had an opportunity to use it in conjunction with my Meade LX200 14" ACF over the holiday weekend. Friday was pitiful, as I was trying to figure out the settings and only got a blinding, white ball on the computer screen for me efforts.

I tried again on Saturday with slightly better results. The skies were fairly stable (still quite a bit of heat from the three weeks of 90 degree weather), and chose to start small; a 30 second video of Jupiter, which equates to approximately 931 frames, according to Registax. This was at F/10, no barlow, Pro 9000 inserted into 2" diagonal.

I can admit my limitations with this software (only used it twice now), and am curious if someone on here would be willing to see what they can do in processing with the same video. I keep reading there are settings within Registax that allows you to bring out detail in the bands, but again, at this point, I don't possess the skill set to do it myself. I'll ultimately learn Registax software through trial and error, but given the obvious skill level of many individuals here, I'm really curious as to how good the image could really be. Maybe what I have is as good as it gets, but I seriously doubt it. I'm attaching my 'processed' image to this email for your perusal. Be gentle, it's my first astro image.... ;););)

Here's my first in semi in-focus, 30 sec, no guiding, reduced size to fit here, pretty bad image of m13.

I used a nikon d70 w/ my 12" lx200, 30 sec using the built in long exposure noise reduction feature on the camera, no darks, ect.... It looks almost ok as long as you don't zoom in

oh yea almost forgot unsharp mask using GIMP

This wasn't my first try but it was the second - the first looked like a big glob of light! Taken through a Celestron XLT 120 at 40X by holding my digital camera to the EP. Camera shutter was set at 1/60. Its by no means the greatest shot but it thrilled me!

First solo picture. Jupiter through a 6" Dob that my buddy loaned to me(we are building a 13.1" F4.4 dob). I think it was a 9mm eyepiece. Hand held F4 1/100s 800iso canon 30D with a tamron 28-200 mm lense.

Here's one of the shots from our first foray into astrophotography (this weekend, near high point state park in New Jersey).

We are using an LXD75 mount, an Astrotech AT8IN 8 inch f/4 newtonian, and a canon 350d. This was our first weekend using the scope or mount at all!

Anyways, in this picture you can see some star movement (it was pretty windy!). we had some other shots with much nicer stars but the subjects weren't as striking as this. This is before any kind of processing. One 30 second exposure, as it came off the camera, but scaled down and compressed for uploading.
