Here is my first attempt: It is the moon through my Celestron C4.5 with the aperture stopped down to 45mm. The eyepiece is a 25mm Kellner. Surprisingly the image at the eyepiece was clear and very sharp. I used my cel phone held up to the eyepiece to capture this image, which was not easy!
Just as thought, check the lens on the cell phone, it might have some finger prints on it.

Here is a really poor attempt at Par Focal AP, I took this tonight through my Carton 60/1000 at 67X using a garbage digi cam held up to the EP. And the CA that is present is not from the scope, it is either from the processing I did or from the camera itself. This scope at this f/l is color free.

Eric,
You should be proud, my first images you couldn't tell it was a moon. Look back on this post and see what I posted as my first images and those were the good ones. Your image is ok focused but to get focus takes trial and error. Keep it up and before you know it your planetary/moon images will be great. The below link is of the first moon image (that survived), yours is much better.

My first attempt. Another typical bad newbie shot of M42. In my defense I don't even have a remote shutter release yet so...30 second shots fired by hand; the wind was howling about 30 mph; the moon was bright; and thin clouds were floating in and out of the FOV. But I just got the mount and scope yesterday and I could see stars here and there so I had to give it a try. I was worried the camera wouldn't come to focus on this scope, but it did, well...sorta I really planned to just use the camera on the mount for photography, but couldn't resist trying it out this way.
Canon 20d through a C6-N on CG5-GT mount. About 10 30 seocond exposures, stacked with DSS and messed around with in Photoshop. It's pretty obvious I don't have a clue what I'm doing, but let the learning begin.

Under those conditions, I'd say it's not bad at all. I've noticed that good images demand almost perfect conditions.

This is my first attempting at hooking my video camera up to my Orion Sky Quest XT12G 12" GOTO Dobsonian Telescope.
I was using the Orion 7.21-21.5mm zoom eyepiece near maximum magnification (roughly 200x).
I mounted my Sony HDR-CX150 HD Video Camera to the scope using the Orion Steady-Pix Deluxe camera mount.
Enjoy,
Greg.

I'm waiting on a new CPC 1100 to arrive so I thought I'd post an old picture since I've been away from astronomy for a few years. It's not a great looking picture since we were using an inexpensive digital camera at the time but the first is always special. Here is a pic from 2003 (published in S&T reader submissions in May 2004). It was my first night out (a very cold night) with a 10" LX200 GPS. I was looking at M42 (if memory serves) while my brother took a 1 min. exposure. It was unusual in that we rarely get the aurora borealis effect in Tennessee and because the lights almost perfectly outline me and the scope. We were pretty amazed when it was downloaded because the lights looked nothing like the picture with the naked eye. You can see a homemade dew shield (rolled camping mat with felt covering the inside). It worked pretty well for around $15.00. I sure do miss that scope and can hardly wait for the Celestron to arrive.

Okay, I'll jump in here, this was taken before winter set in, and I put up the scope, so I don't remember exactly the exposure setup. I can say, it was taken with my Celestron C8, with a Nikon D5000, no lens. I hooked up a T-adapter, and used a little device from Photix, that would automatically expose for "X" seconds, so many seconds apart. what I did, was set the camera at Shutter priority, (I think), and then changed the shutter speed between each automatic shot. The little Photix device was absolutely invaluable, allowing me to remotely set off the shutter, (hence, no vibration), and allow the freedom to concentrate on changing the shutter speed dial. But, I digress.. I now have a DSI-II that I'm trying to get to work, and am a bit confused, but that's another forum. This shot is a "raw" shot, only adjusting the hue a bit as the original was toward the "brown-ish" side.
Time to tweak the learning curve!

Reshot the moon with a Canon 50D this time. Used a home-made t-adapter, hopefully I can get an actual one pretty soon, as I had some problems with this one.

Well, I was hoping that my first would be better....but we all know how that goes. Hey, it was 17 DEGREES! AT6 DSI II. Jupiter and 4 moons.

If I think of any more excuses I will add them later.

This was my first stack ever in DSS (I tried RegiStax but couldn't get past the learning curve at that point) Mind you I was waiting for my 10" Dob to arrive and was getting anxious for discovery, so I pointed my Canon 350 up. I knew nothing of dark frames or bias frames. (have learned so much in 2 weeks ) Anyhow...another M42 for the collection
