First off - if this has been discussed a million times I apologize! If someone just wants to PM me with the answer that would be great. I need a detailed explaination on hooking up all this stuff. Been to the yahoo group and STILL confused.
Here is what I think I want to do.
DSI Pro is my guide camera. This should attach directly to the USB port on my laptop. I will download and use PHD. To send guide comments I THINK I should funnel all the commands using ASCOM and EQMOD directly to the EQDIR and then attach this to the hand piece port on the mount. So...PHD, EQMOD and Starry Night Pro v6 will all send commands into the hand set port. I will not need the autoguider port. I understand that POTH is no longer needed.
I would appreciate someone's response.

This all sounds right. ASCOM drivers installed on the PC, PHD and planetarium software installed after. You're going to tell them both to use the "EQMOD ASCOM EQ5/EQ6" driver.
Serial cable back to scope using the EQDIR module. USB to PC for the camera. (Assume you've installed the drivers for the DSI already.)
Plug in the camera, turn on the mount. Load the planetarium software and configure to use the ASCOM driver. Verify it's talking to the mount, on mine I can hear the steppers whine slightly when it connects. Start PHD select the DSI for the camera and ASCOM EQDIR for the mount. Seems like it should be more complicated but it's not, 2 cables for all that functionality. This setup does have a learnig curve but it's not bad and the payoff is unbelieveable.
OK well mabe not unbeliveable but still... cooler than the other side of the pillow.

Hi Robert,
You will also want some kind of directional controller for the mount, since you won't have the handset. Any USB joystick or gamepad should work for basic control. I use the Logitech Cordless RumblePad 2.

Good point Don, The Rumble Pad is the piece I left out of the explanation here. When I first ran this I realized in about 5 seconds I was going to need one. For me, remembering what all of the buttons do on the game-pad is the steepest part of the learning curve. I can't tell you how many times I killed my tracking without knowing how I was doing it.

I am going to use my wireless joystick. A friend of mine said to label every button with glow in the dark labels!
