Early morning April 3rd. Sharpless 2-27, the very faint and very large emission nebula surrounding Zeta Ophiuchi. Very difficult to photograph in great detail. This image was taken with a Pentax 67 and 165mm f/2.8 lens stopped down to f/4, 30 minutes exposure on E200 pushed +1 stop. Scanned on an Epson 4490 flatbed scanner and processed in PS and PixInsight LE.

Another great shot -- the red color is superb in this shot. You must have really dark skies to take 30 minute exposures at f/4.

Thanks for the feedback. I am really interested in this nebula. It is similar to Sharpless 2-264, the Head of Orion. It is of course much lower in declination, therefore closer to my horizon. I was happy with the image. The early morning hours are great for imaging. The morning I took this shot my limiting magnitude at the zenith was just beyond 7th magnitude. My roll off roof observatory just 30 feet from my front door let's me get out of bed and image within minutes. Combined that with my dark skies, I live in paradise!
