While I was gone on a trip last month, my faithful old Lenovo system was wounded by a power surge and knocked out the USB controllers. I tried resurrecting it but the USB ports just were toasted. I final gave up, knowing it had served me well.
Opportunity knocks and it is time for a new system...I broke with tradition and bought an HP tower with a 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo, 3GB RAM (800 Mhz FSB), a 500GB SATA, etc...I also am now running Vista Home Premium. So far I like it. I did run into trouble trying to install my Quicken 2005 and decided to upgrade anyway since I do that every 3-4 years. I love the sidebar apps.
I also got an Acer 22" widescreen LCD and gave the old one to my boy (we finally moved his computer out of the common space and into his room...he's psyched!). This is the same Acer WS monitor that I have at work and love it...so had to get one for myself.
All in all, I'm really happy with the system, the OS and all the goodies that came with it.

Too bad so many of the good one die young, but, it fought the good fight!
Your new computer system sounds like a good workhorse, especially the monitor!

Congrates--- now if you have a broadband connection and use Firefox-- follow these steps and watch the pages load A LOT FASTER! --- Firefox's default settings are setup for dialup connections--- by the way.

The only change is that I set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests to 18 instead of 30--- don't want to irritate those webmasters!
