I just wanted to bounce this idea for a possible colaberation project. The digital guys can use a B&W camera, and shoot successive images using coloured filters.
Why not film? The textures and tones that B&W film produces are second to none. Why not shoot a second exposure with a red filter for x time, 3rd exposure with green, etc. Use Registar to put the images together, and viola. I suspect that the tight grain of the B&W film might add something to these types of exposures.
Don't jump all over me at once. Please think about it - for wide field shots thru the lens. This might be easier to try with 35mm film - but I would love to take a whack at medium format.

Hi Igor,
From what I have read, using RGB filters with B & W Kodak Technical Pan film (heat treated in Hydrogen / Nitrogen: a process called "hypering") was the old "standard method" for producing color astro-images. With Technical Pan film discontinued, and the availability of Kodak E200 slide film (which gives good color images without filters or hypering) not many people are doing RGB with film anymore. Hutech still sells the filters specifically "tuned" for Tech Pan RGB imaging though. Hope this helps, Mopman

Yes, it helps thank you. Sometimes my mind wanders way outside the box without realizing where it is.
A lot of effort doing RGB if E200 does it the same.

You can use Ha filters still, even with E200, and this is esecially good for renerding more constrast and detail in Ha emmision nebula. But the resulting image will be completely red, so converting it to B&W in post processing will be necessary.

Thanks guys. I will start doing more research and study on these subjects. They give me a spark, as they are different from the mainstream photos. It has also renewed my interest in B&W photography. Time to wander about, and let the visual inspire the passion for photography again.
