First Off I Will Say Sorry To Both Randy and Chris. Both Of You Are Great Guys who help answer pleanty of questions in all areas of the forum.
On Cloudy Nights I spend a good deal of time in the Shop and Swap,Equipment,Eyepieces,Mounts, and Refractors.
Any time any other member including myself asks a question about anything relating to the topic and we are usually bombarded with all types of replies by the friendly members who like to help.
And then there is this area "Video and Electronically Asisted Astronomy" I have personally placed 2 Newbie Questions to try to seriously find out more about this side of Astronomy.
I had wondered what type of equipment I needed and where it may be found. Also what types and brands perform better and are a good value for the money.
After having both of these questions on the forum for a good while,I recived 1 reply. That was on Sunday night when I posted my 1st question(so Thank You mclewis1).Since then my 2nd question hasnt garnered even a peep from the observers who follow and understand this area of observing.
So 2 questions and 1 answer. Is there some reason as to why newbies arent helped here?Obviously only those who have been practicing this style of viewing for a while are Welcome.
I had this same problem when this was just a pinned thread in the forum and didnt have its on section on CN.Now that all of you do have your own area on Cloudy Nights Seem To Offer NO Help AT ALL.
But go to anyother part of this Forum and see if you dont get several answers for your question, with many coming in the first hour.
Just never thought I would see a section of Cloudy Nights that had no compassion, nor provided any Help to any one else in the Forum.Truly A Shame.
And Again I am Sorry Chris and Randy But This Had To Be Said.

I think this may be such a new concept, that not many people have answers. I too was waiting to see a reply on your newbie thread, and Mark answered it very well. I wish I was more help to members with questions, but I dont know much! lol As soon as I have a mallincam or other video-type imager, hopefully I will be able to assist.

I would have to agree with Jon as well. This is an extreemly new way of viewing (as indicated by the fact that some of these broadcasting sites are still in Beta). I know that unless I have done it and know for sure, I will not post any replies to anything. Too many smart people around here to make me look "dunce like"
That being said, I am also waiting to see if someone knows some of those answers you are looking for.

I did not think there was anymore to add? The one response you got said it all. I have found this forum to be much more data driven than others. Just look at the continuing threads on refractor vs reflector I looked at all my options and saved for a Mallincam Hyper Color Plus. Would love to tell you about it...BUT you explicitly said that was out of the question for you due to the price. Sorry I cannot be of more help!

Todd,
I think since this is such a new area that just about all of us are newbies and as Stephen said kind of feel that we may not be able to offer a lot of well thought out advise. While there are many actual users I know that there may not be a lot of depth of knowledge about the products since there hasn't been a lot of long time use (and just look at Jon and I ... we still haven't received our Mallincams yet). In comparison when someone gets a new scope or accessory the knowledge of it's use is often built up on top of years of similar products. With these new video things there simply isn't that long term base of knowledge.
I know the folks in this forum are very willing to help out on just about any kind of questions. You should see the amount of time put into the live viewing concept ... simply amazing and exceptionally un selfish. So it's not the individuals, rather I think it's the subject that has us a little "tongue tied".

Well,I Must Admit The replies have be feeling much better about the situation. So it looks as if most of you are not too far ahead of where I am (which is the beginning)
I apologize if I mis-judged anyone, but I would aldo imagine there has to be some of the members in this area who are extremely knowledgeable. If not the original thread that created this section would not have existed or grown.
So I do realize there are many who are still leaening, there are some who know enough to be of extreme help.
And Again Thank you All Who answered here.

This area is new, but it seems to attract technically pretty sophisticated bunch.
So, it is growing at a nose-bleed rate -- One day someone will be asking what scope to buy, and the next day they are rigged up to broadcast world-wide and capture awesome images.
Some days I feel like I've ridden my tricycle into the Olympic velodrome by mistake -- the other guys are just whizzing past.
Anyway, I think you'll find it is a great bunch. And Rock Mallin, on the Yahoo site, is extremely patient and helpful with newbies.
Roland, of course, another 4" evangelist, continues to make space for those with more common backyard gear.
I've only had my gear out twice, because of poor weather, so I'm a bit shy about helping other newbies, but I'll give it a shot.

Try and catch some of broadcasts, lots of questions and answers happen there live via the chat window. It's great to ask a question and not only told the answer but see it as well. But be patient, what till the chatting slow down so they can see your question.
I have a Mallincam on order and until I get it, I won’t be able to help much. I usually don’t talk about something until I’ve had on hands experience rather then just parroting something someone else had said. I think you find that true here with most of the members of this forum.
We for the most part are all entering uncharted waters and we get the chance of all learning it together, quite exciting when you think about it.
As a side note I want to thank all of the members on this forum for helping out and behaving yourselves. Randy is on a personal hiatus, please don’t ask why, and I have two other forums to help moderate. Refractors forum takes a lot of my time and I can’t spend as much time here as I would like. So hopefully the more expert here will help out with the newbie questions while I’m busy helping put out fires else where.
Thanks guys

Could not have said it better, Jon. Most of us are waiting for our cameras and other equipment and we will need help too. I'm still trying to understand my Round Table that I got yesterday. I have had many of my questions answered by members like Neil and Jack and also gain hints on Sky Channels.

I kind of stumbled into this section one night just trying out the other forums other than the ones I'm usually in (refractor/reflector). I have thought about getting into astrophotography, but after reading several articles and forums the cost really scared me away (a good to great mount, autoguiding, CCD/etc.etc.etc.$$$$$$$). This forum as completely changed my view on astrophotography or viewing. The thought the one could potentially increase the mirror or lense size of your scope 4X-10X with the use of the Mallincam or other camera's seems really exciting. I have noted the same thing that the volume of replies does not match what you see in the other forums, but I can tell you that this is the first forum I now check out because of all the new things going on in this field. I bet in a year or so this might turn out to be one of the most active forums! Scott

Todd, I peruse titles of threads pretty quick then move on. If you have any more questions, I will take a crack at them if I can. Best to send me a PM in case I miss it because I am not on CN all the time. Keep in mind, my approach is pretty practical and my scopes range from 4 to 12.5 inches. I don't have a BIG one and I am not particularly enamored with highly technical issue. I want to know that it works and if I find something that does, I tell folks. For general stuff, you might want to read down the threat I started at the top of the forum on "introduction".

I think most questions are now being addressed in the chat rooms of the live channels. This actually makes a lot of sense. You get to see this technology first hand, see the settings used to give us all these views, and then you are able to ask a group of observers your questions, and recieve multiple points of views on the subject.
On top of everything else that this can offer you, you are only an hour and a half away from me in Wilmington, and you are more than welcome to come here and observe with me in session sometime.
