Antares 152mm F/6.5 and Mallincam
      #2343826 - 04/22/08 04:29 AM

Just a brief report: I mounted this on an EQ6/Atlas and tried it with the Mallincam.

I was worried there would not be enough in-focus, but in fact there was not enough out-focus. I had to add a couple of extension tubes to make it work. That is because I do not have the stock focuser, but the Antares/GSO 2-speed Crayford -- I believe the stock R&P has a lot more travel (so much that some have cut a bit off, as they were afraid the focus tube interfered with the light cone from the objective).

Anyway, the view of M3 was spectacular at 7x4 once I got the focusing dialed in. Not surprisingly, it burned out at 14x4.

I had difficulty getting an image of M51 -- But, a Full Moon was adding to significant light pollution, and my GoTo was not quite perfect -- I searched around, but the temperature was right on freezing, and I have to work tomorrow -- wait -- it is tomorrow! Got everything in by 1:00 a.m.
Most notable though, was the focusing --

Great report! Can you use the mallincam with a diagonal to reach focus? I guess I better get a few extension tubes! lol

Hi Jon,

I tried the Antares 2" diagonal, but it still wasn't quite enough to get focus.

I patched together a mix of other focuser parts and tubes, which exceeded the needed length, so I could rack it in a bit.

Jon, I would also like to try the MC on our C6-R's. This is what I had planned from the beginning. Have you seen some of the images Jack took with his C6-R? Too many options. I'm also looking to use the camera with my HA scopes.

It's also much lighter than a CGE 14 or CPC 11.
