John,
Please give us a review after you receive the book-it looks from the review like a rewrite of "Rocks from Space".

Thanks for the tip John!
Norton's new book sounds like a winner.
I'm going to keep an eye out for it.

That does look interesting but $40 is a bit steep for a soft cover field guide. I think I'd want to take a look at it before plunking down the change.

I called Cambridge books in N.Y and was informed that Nortons Encylopedia is no longer in print an not available anywhere in the world. They gave me a couple of out of print book stores phone numbers and they even had no idea of where to go. So if anyone out there has one,you have a collectors item, congratulations. Cambridge books told me I can expect Amazon to notify me telling me the same.

I got a new copy from AbeBooks about 2 months ago for $75 + $3 S&H
I just got through reading/skimming the book-beautiful pictures, a lot of data, but not easy reading like Rocks from Space.

I've tried three different times now.Every time I keep geting an e-mail from AbeBooks telling me that the book is no longer available because that particular book seller never updated it as being sold. They always indicate"one available" no telling when it was sold.I'll keep trying, sooner or later one will come through,I hope.Abebooks gave me several options in trying to find one.

Dick,
If Abebooks doesn't pan out for you, let me know and I'll ask around to some of my meteorite friends and see if anyone has a copy to sell. You might try Mike Jensen at Jensen Meteorites, he stocks a number of rare and out of print meteorite books, including a number of very rare volumes by Nininger. He might have a copy of this encyclopedia.
Regards and clear skies,

Through AbeBooks I found INDOO.com.I received a confirmation today that I can expect it in a couple of weeks.I paid 63$ inc. shipping, brand new, hard back. BUT when I went to their web site(INDOO.com) and typed ISBN:0521621437 (the # assigned to Nortons book)in their search on top I got a quote for 33$ brand new, suppose to be on sail.I e-mailed them requesting info as to how many books are still available and can expect a answer in 24 hours. Thought I let you know just in case someone might want to get a head start.Seems impossible,so use CAUTION.

Just got word from INDOO they "DONOT" have any in stock. The link from AbeBooks indicated they had at least 20 in stock. Why don't these people update these pages every 10 years or so?

Dick,
Try this page. It's Mike Jensen's meteorite book page. There is an email link towards the bottom. He might be able to point you in the right direction. If he can't find it, then it can't be found - as far as meteorite books go.

Dick,
There has been an explosion of new meteorite collectors in recent months - not just on Cloudy Nights, but everywhere. Up until recently, it was a relatively obscure branch of rockhounding and space collectors. But now it seems to have gone more mainstream and they are being used in outreach and in all manner of new ways. The supply of meteorites is being stretched thin, and so is the supply of meteorite books. I would imagine these books were never published in great numbers to start with, so there aren't as many used copies floating around as one might first think. But with persistence, I'm sure you'll eventually find a copy. It might be a good idea to set up an automatic eBay alert to send you an email the moment someone lists a copy on eBay. And be vigilant. I'm sure your patience will pay off. FWIW, I don't have a copy either, but I am not competing with you at the moment because I'm not in the market for one.
Regards and clear skies,
MikeG

I just checked Amazon.com and there are some new copies listed by vendors, plus, Amazon has enabled the ability to put one in your shopping cart (I don't recall seeing that the other day.)
