And as long as it's still in the collet we'll tap it now instead of adding an operation and trying to tap it later.

We also made the 1.5 inch by .250 inch rods that are drilled and tapped for 4-40 screws on both ends...

Here's slitting the 10-32 adjusting screws.

So finally we can trial assemble all of the pieces and see how it looks and functions.

Here is a side view.

Mounted on the end of the Collimation Tube...now you can see why I posted the uncluttered views...

It's starting to get a bit cluttered.

A side view of the Primary Baffle on the adjuster.

We will setup to drill the mounting/adjusting holes in the CF Baffle tomorrow.

And finally a look down inside the Baffle Tube Mounted on the Adjuster...

For as simple as it looks, I would never have guessed that it would take the better part of 3+ days to get to this point...Those one off setup are a time Killer

Hope You enjoy the progress...

Best Regards,

Preston

ps, we will most likely be making another Primary Baffle Tube without the wrinkles at some point

It just keeps attracting me to read on and on
Must be the CF material, like a black hole, strong
atractor!

Good job Preston,

Rob and Mert thanks for you always kind words and support...

Things are progressing...I think that I solved my design issue with being able to adjust the Secondary Baffle last night while DREAMING me Please

No really and I've started work to that end today...pics tomorrow, but I had really been dreading this one and the design is so simple I cannot believe that I did not think of it earlier...

Hopefully the aluminum order comes today for the material needed for the Squaring Plate/Field Rotator...and hopefully the team member that has the Paramount VersaPlate got it shipped to me today...

Best Regards,

Preston

ps...also got an idea for a Primary Mirror Cover that will close over the mirror like flower peadles when the scope is not in use now if I can only find some more time...

Well the Thanksgiving weekend gave me at least 36 hours of machine time on things...got the Primary Baffle drilled for the Collimation Jig...now need to redo the Baffle to rid us of the wrinkles...

Thus, had to fill in the groves in the mandral from sawing the Baffles to lenght and then drilling the mounting holes...there has to be a better way

Moved on to the Field Rotator/Squaring Back and have progressed nicely without any errors

When you see the drilling pattern you'll understand my happyness....

Pics will be posted tomorrow...I've been going from about 8am to 5pm for the past 4 days and couldn't think about sizing pics and then posting...

Until Tomorrow,

Best Regards,

Preston

Errrrrr the left brain was not talking to the right brain

We had a slight problem corp up but have fixed it and that is the sign of a good machinist....and the fix is elegant... for a fix....

The mind does strange things some times...like assuming that the radial distance and the offset from that radial to a point to the side would be where you would spot the event....

No, we should have rotated the Rotary table 12 degees instead of doing the offset...

More tomorrow...and I promise to update more often...

Best Regards,

Preston

Ok so who wants to see more pictures of the past weeks work

Well here goes nothing>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

We made the little adjusting pads out of gray teflon and then bonded them to the slotted SS adjusting screw.

These will allow us to adjust the Primary Baffle to the secondary baffle.

The is a shot down the ID of the Primary Baffle showing just how the Adjusting Pad is working.

And from the OD only the slotted end of the thread shows...we will blacken it although it is in the shadow of the secondary.

Now we go to the Field Rotator/Squaring Plate and the beganning of CNC milling of the Rotator back plate.

The plate blank is 13 x 14 x 0.50 inches for referance and we will end up reducing it's weight by better than half.

Here we have finished up all of the lightening pockets and the ID through hole and are working on the outer cut through.

Thus you can see the outline is just a triangle with the tips rounded.

So since we fresh with programming the cnc we went straight to the Rotator Ring next.

Here we are at the end of shaping it on the CNC.

Our CNC router is not as stiff as the one that Kerry had our other CNC made on but sure saves a lot of time for roughing out parts and lightening pockets.

Here we are turning the OD of the Rotator Ring after havinb bored the ID out to clean up the rougher edges.

Now we need to bore the ID hole in the Rotator Back so that we can chuck it up on the Rotary Table and drill and mill the needed holes and slots to hold the bearings for the Rotator Ring and aligning bearings.

Here we are boring the central hole.
