build my own GoTo with a 12" dob
      #2364397 - 05/01/08 01:43 PM

Hey everyone!

I've had my 12" dob for about a year and a half now and I absolutely love it. I'm graduating from college in a few weeks with an electrical engineering degree so I figured what would be a fun summer project but to build my own GoTo!

I'm not looking to do anything fancy like tracking for video, maybe in the future. I'm just looking to have something where I can put in the coordinate from Stellarium and have it find that point. Here in north jersey its pretty light polluted so I figured a goto would help me find the dim little guys I've had trouble spotting.

I've seen the one page online about people doing this at bbastrodesigns.com but I was wondering if anyone here has given it a try?

Thanks!

Steve, people put encoders on Dobs quite often but this is probably not the forum to get that information. Have you tried some of the others that deal with telescope making or equipment? Roland
