Excellent work. I really enjoyed reading it. I always wondered how my PST worked.

Not only is this great information, but raises some interesting questions around the new systems that Lunt Solar Systems will be bringing to the market. I had to wonder when I read about the second circle of spacers in the etalon that are placed in the field of view. Won't this reduce contrast, by acting similarly to the secondary in a Newtonian? In some sense it would also seem to reduce the 10mm advantage in aperture that the 100mm Lunt systems have over the 90mm SolarMax refractors. I realize that the extra 10 mm in aperture has to translate to an increase in resolution, but the obstruction would seem to be a concern in a telescope that needs to avoid scattered light to perform optimally on the sun. I have an LS200T on pre-order, so this article gave me a lot to ponder.

I don't think the LS200 will have any obstructions in the etalon. But, of course, it has the diagonal mirror obstruction.
I agree that contrast is key and Andy has a lot to prove with the new large front aperture etalons. I expect in about 2 months we will start getting first hand reports.
