Hi all. I really enjoyed watching the lunar eclipse Wednesday.
A couple of interesting things I noticed.
I happened to be watching about a third of the way into the eclipse when I saw a jet airliner transit across the lower half of the moon. How cool was that!! It was one of the bigger jets but looked very small. It must have been way out there.
The other thing I noticed which I couldn't identify were possibly satelites transiting the moon. Tiny dots anyway. The odd thing about it was that there must have been dozens. One every couple minutes or so. I gave up counting after about ten. Could they have been birds or were they satelites? At the altitude the moon was at I would have thought I would have been able to recognize a bird feature.
There does seem to be lots of satelites whizzing by overhead.
Also saw a really big meteor trail that night (not through the scope though).
All in all, I thought it was a pretty interesting night.

Hey, maybe we saw the same meteor. I saw one really huge trail while I was observing the lunar eclipse.

Hi Dale,
Have you visited the lunar observing forum since the elcipse? There is a thread going on there wherein some of these 'flashes' are discussed. You might find it interesting.
I didn't get to see anything, meteors or otherwise, because of the clouds in the east!

Very possible namjagerungbengi. It was one of the bigger ones I've seen for a long while. Could hardly miss this one.
It went from east to west and was in the southern hemisphere (from here anyway).

Thanks Tim. I'll look that thread up.
It was strange how it cleared up just for the eclipse then went to raining again.

I had just the opposite. It was perfectly clear all day and night until just 20 minutes before the eclpise, then solid cloud. It all cleared up an hour after the eclpise was over.

Here in central Maryland on the east coast, the clouds marched in and covered the Moon just as totality began and then pretty much hid it from view from that point on... darn clouds...

Hi Tim: I went up to Suffern NY at the Rockland Community College with the club. It was clear up there right up to the total eclipse then the clouds rolled in there too. Moon was in and out. But I did get to see moon go total eclipse up to that point so it wasnt total loss.
