Last night, I drove to a dark site with a clear view to the horizon. The nelm sunk below mag 6. M13 and M5 were visible with the naked eye. I made several sketches with the binoculars. Finally the constellation of the Scorpion caught my attention. I could not resist to put the Scorpion to paper. Constellation sketches are very enjoyable to do. Here is my impression.
Clear skies,

Rony,
Thank you very much for this beautiful rendering of the Scorpion over your southern horizon. You have captured the heart (Antares) and head of Scorpius perfectly.

Rony, I am a sucker for sketches that show a frame of the horizon or some interesting backdrop. This one is really striking!!

Rony,
Great sketch of the scorpion. I am struck by how close to the horizon the constellation is from your location at almost 51 degrees north Lat. I feel I am living far south at 42 degrees. Great foreground in the sketch as well.

That is an incredibly beautiful sketch! I really don't have the words to describe how this sketch is making me feel. I really, really love the trees, the scorpion, well *BLEEP* the whole thing actually.

Very nice Rony. I too have found that sketching the constellations is as enjoyable as sketching the DSO's we gaze at within them.
Nice job!

Rony, how did you get the transition of sky color from the top to near the horizon so smooth? I have had several sketch times with a sky that changes color or tint over the scene but have a difficult time getting it smooth when I want it smooth. Roland

Roland,
At the site, I rated the sky brightness near horizon and near the top of the pencil sketch. At home I made a digital sketch with photopaint. There is this tool called : Gradient Fill Tool. It allows to fill an area with a mixture of colors. Thats how I producent a layer in the background of the sketch.

Rony, that's beautiful! Ever thought of making a book from your sketches?
