Isnt my $63.00 door pretty? We almost paid $300.00 for the horrible local lumber people to do the same thing we did for $63.00 plus about $20.00 for the pieces to make our own frame!
Heres the little drip edge stuff we used. Again, it was $28.00 for a good door kick plate, or $3.50 for this. The wife is a genious I tell ya!

Everytime I read this thread it just makes me SMILE! You two are doing such a great job and following along really brightens my day. When I see how much you've accomplished on your obs inspite of all the other things that need to get done on a daily basis like jobs, kids, school, house etc I gotta tell you, it's inspirational!
Not to me though, I'm tired and I'm gonna take a nap, but I'm sure that a better person would look at what you've done and be up off the couch and out the door. As for me I'll check back after I get a little shut-eye.

Well, Happy Birthday, Spoonsize!
Karen, you are hilarious! I understand the lack of enthusiasm, once this projects is done...well....then i guess im back to the 9ton dirt mound...but shortly after that im done!
A name, eh?
TBH, we havent had a chance to sit down and ponder. I really like Walt's choice: Sleepless Nights Observatory. Thats pretty schweet! The 'Widows Peak' is awsome too. Heck, all yalls ideas have been great, the 'Sleepless Nights' one just kinda stuck with me. Thats so good im suprised its not already taken and Ill have to pay some guy in Rhode Island royalties.
We just finished the South side pyramid thingie with siding and were on the North but it started raining real bad and we ran into check the Weather.
Hopefully, we can go back out in a few.

All the racket on this thread woke me up! I vote for "Sleepless Nights Observatory" and think Spoonsize's logo design is perfect. Please try and keep the noise down as us old folks need our rest.

I started this post this morning about 10ish to say great logo Spoonsize, but the wife came in and said lets get busy so I can have my weekends back and just like that, we were out the door rolling!

LMAO...im not saying a word!
Well, I had some pics from lastnight but they were all dark so I had to wait and take more today so yall could see that we are DONE ENOUGH TO MOVE IN!
We got done just a little bit ago nit-picking over this and that and it seemed as good as were gonna get it so I went ahead and put my scope and goodies in!
We caulked every little hole we could find, weather-selaed where the fold down wall meets the non folding wall part, put up one more cross brace on the last 2 posts, then we went to Lowe's and got some generic wall stuff and a stop at WalMart to get more of that foamy flooring!
The only thing left to do now is finish the floor, put the rest of the fake walling stuff up and wait for the electrician to get here most likely tuesday!
So exciting! Thank you all for the help so much, we could not have done it without ya. Seriously!
Todays last check is 18'x12 1/2' (I still cant explain how that happened).
For anyone reading this thinking of doing it yourself...dont! Its rough! If you have no experience in building and are on the fence, have BackYard Observatories do it for ya!
I know I should be saying how great it is to do it myself, but If I had it to do over again (and enough money for the club model) id of just begged BYO to do it for me.
Its pretty tough. If you can cut straight and dont mind seriously hard work, then go for it. The wife & I both agree, it would have been alot less painful to let someone else do it for ya!
Right now as I type this, my poor baby Z12 is out there all by herself in the dark listening to the thunder and neighbors with fireworks.
The wife has her major chunk of bedroom back and I can say I am a devoted wannabe astronomer and can back it up!
Im so happy! Its not perfect, but I dont think we could have done any better. Its still a work in progress but Its done enough that the scope can go out there-thats incredible!

I dont know if Ive shown the whole thing with the siding finished, but heres my favorite side with my super-shlacked $63.00 door that saved me about $300.00 on having them build me one from scratch!
