Here is my University Optics 8" F7 with homemade saddle on my CG5 GOTO. This is my first telescope purchased back in 1975. It still gives great views!

Excellent scope!! Yes, while there are larger monsters out there is something very intimate about the observing experience with the 6" Newt and the 4" Refractor. They are increadibly easy to handle and perform like nobodys business. Great scope! Look forward to your first light report

OK This is a 10 inch f/4.3 Gary Seronik inspired scope. The box measures 15.5 X 14 X 9.75 which meets carry on size on some airlines (not that I have any plans to fly), the poles and motor can go in regular luggage. All the wood was made from recycled 3/8 inch maple flooring. The cool thing with this scope is an eq. platform that folds up to 3/4 inch thick. I still have a few things left like coating the mirrors, getting my poles painted black and a few things but it's essentially done. Sorry my only picture of it is a little out of focus.

10" airline travel scope with an integrateed EQ platform......you are the man!
Can't quite see in the pic - are those leveling feet on the base?
What about the Platform - is it adjustable for latitude, what, being a travel scope and all?
The wood is very pretty - curly maple ply/recycled flooring- nice!
Interesting wavy spider - better than a curved vane?
Really cool stuff Ed, beautiful job!

Actually I don't like the feet I made for it, I may re-do them or just uses rubber pads. The platform isn't adjustable other than tilting the base maybe +- 5 degrees. Been thinking of possibly making different fold up sectors for different latitudes. When I get the mirrors coated I'll start a thread on it. It's the last Newt I'll probably make, now if I could just make a Chief this compact.

That looks like a great 'scope, certainly not laughable. My first 'scope was a 40mm table top refractor, but I saw the rings of Saturn in it.
Here is Magnascopium, before I modified the crud out of it.

Do you have a problem with someone who has a smaller scope? Not everyone can start out with a big one. And I bet he's having as much or more fun with it as you are with whatever.

I didnīt mean anything negative by it, it was actually nothing more than a question, because I am considering a 4.5" or 6" myself, it just must not be too big physically.
