Yes the primary is spherical, at F/17 (the width of my patio) it could be left spherical.

It is awesome on the planets and no trouble with stray light, it's more like a long refractor. I made it for observing the planets since my skies near Cincinnati are not very dark. Note that I can only see half of the sky since the flat is next to the house but I see most of the ecliptic. It's really a fun scope. Here are the 2 correcting lenses. This design was the inspiration for the Chief design.

Here is a pic of my 10" mirror, (15 sec exposure), with a 1/4" mask around the edge. This is almost right at ROC. Mask was made to hide TDE and now the scope is a 9.5" f/5.

Hello Ed,
I agree, that is a very comfortable way to go
Here is a pic of my fave, an RV6 on a Meade mount with
drive corrector and, the all important electric focuser.
This out performs my C8 on the planets!
It doesn't out perform my Caves but,
it's the one that gets used the most here in the big city.
Will post one of my Cave's later today also.
Keep 'em coming folks, this is a great thread ,

One of my Caves, it's a Jan. 1975 12½" f6.
Five mods have been done to it, it has SS shafts, MotoFocus, toe savers, counterweights have been turned down and the hardware was changed out to stainless.
The mirros need recoated ( been needing that for ten years and counting ) but, I can't trust this Alika Herring mirror to any transportation method other than hand carrying it to the coater in person ( maybe next year ).
Another Cave ( the 10" f7 Custom Deluxe ) being posted later.

Hi folks,
Here is my Apr. 1970 10" f7 Custom Deluxe.
And, the views are deluxe too.
This does have a fiberglass tube just like the 12½".
Stainless shafts, hardware, and a good polish job ( with Mother's of course! ) on the way in just a short time from now.
I've ben inspired by Rolo, the (aveman and, a whole lot of folks that have this same passion!
P.S.
As you can see, the guide scope looks to be a little small.
I'm on the hunt for a longer one to fit properly, this one does have a Cave lable on it and will be up for a trade soon.
Thanks for looking,
Mike

As I enjoy looking at these nifty reflectors I see some that are mounted on equatorial mounts, and the eye piece seems to be way up above a tall fellow.
I happen to be age 75 and 5Ft 5" and hate climbing up on a ladder in the dark, as my balance isn't as good as it was 20 years ago...LOL
This reminds me of my 10" Trecker Scope from the 50s.
This had a feature where I could loosen and rotate the OTA. It seemed that every time I turned to a new quadrant of the sky, the eyepiece would always be at some crazy neck breaking angle. ...ROFL
Finally I saw advertised an unopened Celestron Dobe mounting base, and I took that big scope and re mounted it on the Dob base.
What a delight! Now I found myself using it every night whereas the EQ. mounting made observing such a chore!
Cheers!
Bob
