Here is my 18-inch Sky Designs. I have had it 20 years next month. I have made many mods over the years. I have had it to approximately 50 star parties and had it at Camp Eberhart 4 summers now and have showed countless thousands of people views through it. I have chronicled my experiences with it at camp here on CN. It has an old Osypowski tracking platform and I just put yet another feathertouch "Blue Nebula" focuser on it. It also has an ST 120 auxilary/finder scope. I use it approximately 120 nights a year and so is likely one of the most used amateur scopes around. I have a backup 17.5 inch mirror for it that I sometimes like to use as well. It has a 20mm longer focal length and was refigured in Dan Joyce's optical shop but the main mirror is an original Sky Designs and is excellent.

Darren,

Wow 20 years is impressive to own anything and still use and enjoy it! It is a beauty - I can only imagine the views.

Here's my new Teeter's Telescope 15" f/4.5. The night I took the picture was first light. Rob Teeter really outdid himself this time. Rob designed a new structure for me with oversize bearings to increase stability. The new structure had no problem handling a Telrad, Stellarvue 80mm finder/RFT, and Ethos 21. The Gordon Waite 15" mirror was excellent. I had fine views of Saturn.

Darren beautiful scope. It's so nice to read about someone who is truly happy with their equipment and really enjoying what they have.

I love Rob's scopes! Beautiful work. Would love to see a picture of the inside of the rocker box, Ben.

BTW, maybe I'll get to see it in person. Are you the new owner that Rob posted about who will be attending AOS NY?

Thanks Paco and Maureen. Here is a close-up of the new Feathertouch Blue Nebula. It is a unique one of a kind.

Darren, gorgeous scope. Hard to believe its two decades old! I'm sure it will deliver a lifetime of beautiful views for both you and the thousands of people fortunate enough to look through it. Your passion for public outreach is admirable.

Hi Maureen,
I'll take some pictures of inside the rocker box and post them. I won't be able to get to it until tomorrow.

I'll be attending the AOS Starfest along with my five-year-old son, Alexander. I'm looking forward to meeting you.

Great! I can see your scope in person!!
Oh, how rude of me to be more interested in your scope than in meeting you. I've enjoyed your posts about your new scope. Meeting people you've chatted with on line is part of the fun of star parties.

This is my first attempt at ATM. It is a 6" f/8 dob with Discovery optics that I recently built with my kids (ages 10 and 8). The only power tools I have are a small hand-held circular saw, jig saw, and hand drill. A colleague who does woodworking made the altitude bearings for me, since I wouldn't have been able to make them as accurately round or matched in size as they needed to be. In addition to Discovery optics, the scope has a JMI RCF-mini1 focuser and a 1800Destiny curved vane spider.

My latest addition to the growing collection

Picked it up this past Sunday and dont have 1st light yet.....MidnightTelescopes 12.5" f/5 2" Swayze mirror, heated protostar, JMI focuser, built in 4 slot filter slide, meticulous attention to detail, shroud, wheel barrow handles and wheels, telerad, presetup for digital setting circles, mirror fan, spring loaded handles, removable mirror cell using 4 knobs, no tools required to change anything, custom 1.5" long secondary "bobs knobs", a very nice balancing system design that requires no weights, cabinet grade baltic birch construction. Shrink wrapped aluminum poles (black).

Something else you dont see much is the scope is designed to defeat "dobsons hole" in that the rocker box is built so the scope sits towards the back of the box which allows you to go past the zenith when trying to view objects directly overhead.

Basically came with all the stuff that is optional on the big names and for half the $$.....The builder has been at it for about 15 years and until recently only relied on word of mouth. I for one am glad he decided to post some ads......If anyone is looking I highly recommend Tom McGowan and MidnightTelescopes as I have never seen a better value for the money in a new DOB

Congrats on the new scope Gshaffer! Here is my 25" f/4.2 Midnightelescope:

I hear Tom has two more 12.5" scopes just like yours for sale still, right?

I believe the other f/5 already sold.... Someone was talking to him about the f/6 per our conversation on Sunday. He might still have the f/6 available.

He also stated he was starting on two 16" scopes and they will be available soon....This was the 1st time he has done smaller ones like the 12.5's.....

My new truss dobsonian-mounted reflector! Lovely!

Made by Peter Read at SDM telescopes ( www.sdmtelescopes.com.au ) incorporating the 12" GSO primary mirror from my previous GSO solid tube.

OK, a smaller image for a baby reflector
