Absolutely! Get a 3 volt (double battery) or 2 volt for a single battery model) LED the same physical size as the bulb and you're all set! Just snip the leads to match the length of the original bulb. And don't worry about putting it in backwards, an LED only lights up in one polarity. If it doesn't light up, just reverse it. I have a red lens for mine. But there is a company that sells LED replacements for the maglights. Their "kit" replaces the reflector and bulb as an assembly. I forget their name, but you could probably google "maglite LED replacement" (without the quotes) and find them. If that doesn't work, use maglight instead of maglite.

Hey guys--question.
Is it possible to replace the stock bulb in a Mini Maglite AAA with a red LED?

Thanks for the heads up on the temperature. You usually don't think winter coats at this time of year but I'll be sure to bring the winter gear (and maybe some hand warmers as well).

That's great! It will be good for letting fellow CN'ers find each other (if they want to be found of course). For those who want to, maybe we can post our location on this thread when we get there or possibly just post a general invitation and folks can pm for locations. Just a thought.

Ditto also on the warm clothes. I'm originally from the Pittsburgh area, and my dad has a camp near Keating Summit. Speaking from experience, it doesn't matter if it's warm in the daytime, I'm here to tell you, it gets freaking cold there! Bundle up!

Speaking of weather, looks good for now, knock wood. Let's hope Gustov doesn't mess with the pattern. Don't nobody go buying any equipment till we get there. Keep the curse away!

This is long-term climate average data for low temps at a site just NW of Coudersport. That site's elevation, 2,300-ft, is very similar to Cherry Springs.
Note that the AVERAGE low temp for September is 46F. You could very easily find yourself in the mid- to upper-30s at night. As far as cold weather gear goes, it's better to have it and not need it than to want it and not have it.

I'm glad I'm going up Tuesday! It's supposed to be nice Tues, wed, and thurs. But we'll see. It's a different world up there and seems to defy "nature" when it comes to the weather.
See you there!
