Got my OB 15x70 'ultras'-oh my aching arms! new
      #2391134 - 05/12/08 10:45 PM

Finally got my binos from Oberwerk, took them a while. These are big 'uns!

But I've never had the chance to enjoy the views from a truly fine bino until now. I didn't know what I was missing, these are good binos. Sun is going down, so far I've just been getting used to them and enjoying the daylight moon, but oh my aching arms! I need a tripod.

I hope to catch the beehive tonight, Mars and Saturn.

Congrats on the bino purchase! I love mine. You are correct that these guys really belong on a tripod of some kind or else you'll need to be able to prop your arms up on something.

Enjoy!

More often than not, I'll use a monoopd with my 15X70s....a lot steadier than hand-holding; but more flexible than mounting on a tripod.

Cheers,

It was a half moon but I managed to catch the Beehive - gorgeous! It was stunning in these binos, I still can see it in my minds eye.

Jim, thanks for the tip on a monopod. I managed to turn my cheap tripod into a monopod and was happy with the arrangement. Think I'll get the real thing.

tripod and P-gram would be better than a tripod

Yea, I'm not sure what to get. What's the best I can do for $100?

$200?

Orion may have the cheapest decent tripods and P-grams; many here prefer the Bogen/Man... tripods

I'm getting used to them. Hey at least it's building up my shoulder muscles! And I'm getting used to making my cheapo tripod perform, more or less. The only downside is that with my very nearsighted prescription, when I max the focus it's still a little soft. If it just had one more notch ...

I think I found M3 tonight, even with a gibbous moon and living near a medium sized city. Wonderful! I never had stuff like this when I was a kid, heck, or even an atlas. Sky gazing was finding a bright star and looking at it in an 8" reflector. Never could find any of the fuzzies.
