My interpretation, in this case: Don't waste your valuable time on people who just want to argue away theirs.

This is my take on it as well. I politely point out to such folk, who I usually encounter while sharing the view through the eyepiece, that they are not going to convince me, and I am unlikely to sway their opinion. So why even start? "Have a look at the Moon. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the evening."

Funny thing about some of these people. They're quick to claim that the photos on the moon were doctored by NASA, but many of them are the first to believe the "Face on Mars" photo is proof of an alien civilization. No amount of debunking/explanation will convince them otherwise.

I always thought to bring up the experiment with the feather and hammer on the lunar surface, but then I thought why bother. They won't understand anyway...

Read my signature and learn to say it over and over, mantra style.

Lots of good advice here.

I had another thought. I wonder if EVERYONE believes they were faked. They might have seen you get a little flustered and then joined in just to have a little fun.

My thinking is give them the Van Allen answer from the thread and then tell them to grow up. Attitude goes a long way.

You people are missing what should be the entire thrust of this conversation....it is good to live at the end of the Roman Empire. Go to the games, take a bath, have a glass of wine...right before the Visigoths pour over the hill all is well.

Hopefully, whatever wipes us out will take these mental defectives at the same time.

Clear skies;
