I am thinking of getting a Lumicon UHC. Would the UHC be the right filter for my 8" DOB 1200 Focal length? Not to dark? Will a filter show any Nebulosity (is this the right word) in star clusters like M45 or is this only accomplished through photos? I understand it works good for Orion.

The UHC nebula filters are very good and will provide nice views of all sorts of emission nebula. The OIII filters tend to be more specific in what they work best on - planetary nebula are their big thing, and they do tend to darken background stars a lot. Still, the OIII is a good filter.
As for the nebula in the Pleiades, I think that is a reflection nebula, so I am not sure if any filter will work well on it.

Well, my UHC filter (Baader UHC-S) works very well on M45, and it certainly shows the nebula. This kind of filter will be very fine for you scope, like ForgottenMObject said. It will not be nearly as dark as a OIII filter, meaning that you will see more stars with UHC than OIII.

For a general overview of filters see David Knisely's article.
For a really thorough hashing over of which filters are good for which objects see David Knisely's filter comparison article
