Jeff I mentioned that would like to extend a serial cable, not a USB cable. A USB has issues over a certain length like you said where as a serial cable can go quite a bit further. I can do almost anything when it comes to DIY projects but wiring and the like is just not my forte. If anybody would like to make one up for me I'll be more than willing to pay all expenses. hint hint LOL

Received the 497 today. Nice unit. Bigger, I can no longer easily hit all the keys with it held in one hand.
Works like a charm. The keypad really makes this thing. For the longest time I was aggravated because I couldn't change manual slew speeds. The usual button didn't do anything. Then I had given up and was all grumbly when I discovered the keypad sets speeds discretely by simply hitting a number. No more scrolling through speeds. Happy Camper!
Hooked up the cable that came with the DSI for Autostar PC control. Handbox on one end, computer on the other. The PC connection worked fine using Autostar planetarium. Pretty cool. I also like the remote handbox feature which is a representation of the handbox on your screen, and you can hit buttons for slew and speed and all the rest with the mouse. This is a separate window and will run on top of the Envisage screen if you want it to, which is nice.
Which brings me to my final puzzle... I cannot get Envisage to take control of the scope with the scope controls in the imaging interface. Some error comes up saying it's found a port or recognizes some name, but it can't connect.
SO I'm 90% thrilled really with the new handset and PC control, only glitch is I want Drizzle to autoguide and all that good stuff and so far no joy.

Sounds like you'll be happy with the 497 once you get past the configuration nuance. I've got a DSI in transit right now and I'm looking forward to playing around with it and the software soon.
