After over 40 years in computers, I REALLY hate to give Microsoft any kind of credit but after downloading this software yesterday, I was very impressed.

Will it replace my Planning and Planitarium software for work with the telescopes? Absolutely not.

However, if you want to share the sky with someone who is not an astronomer, this software is wonderfully effective. I can see planning a sky tour with this software much like preparing for a sky party for non atronomers.

With the federal budget crunches coming no matter who is elected, our only hope for continued funding of Hubble, its future replacement and general astronomical research, getting the public interested in space is critical. This is a good tool for that effort.

My computer is new and optimized for graphics (photoshop nut also) the PC requirements were no problem. However, I do have software installed to monitor my network and ISP traffic. This puppy eats bandwith like nothing else I have. Our ISPs are going to love it - not! It makes my 1 Meg connection seem really slow.

Best find so far: Under the "Look at" button is "Panoramas". Hidden there are some fantastic panoramas taken by the Mars rovers at high resolution. I spent over 2 hours there yesterday.

Wouldn't it be nice if this program raised awareness of light pollution for a larger audience.

I'd donate to that cause.

It does. You can view the earth at night. Someone creative can setup a sky tour that raises awareness to light pollution.

What I would really like to impress upon people in this forum is to take a serious look at the guided tours. As you watch the tours let them inspire you on what you can do to use WWT to educate and outreach to the public.

Yeah. Looks cool. From home.

Hopefully the next version will have the proxy issues worked out.
