Scott:
I forgot to mention earlier, I appreciated your inclusion of the mount discussion .... after all, satisfaction with a particular scope is truly a sum of the parts. Again, nice job.

Scott,
Great report. My SV80ED continues to impress me too, can't wait for my SV90T to arrive! Like others, I would really like to see a shoot-out between the SV80ED and maybe a TV85 or a Tak 90 or a WO 80, etc...
Keep 'em coming Scott!

Scott,

Thank you for for such a well thought out review! My only complaint is that you have made my wait for the SV90T that I have on order even harder!

After seeing the Stardust Blue in your photos, I'm happy that I ordered mine in that color!

Super review, Scott! Coincides with my experience with SV80ED. It is my most used scope.

Scott, very nice thoughtful and complete review.

On the less functional side I liked your discussion of color.

I too was wondering about blue, but once I got my blue SV80 it quickly grew on me. Not sure if my next SV scope, the SV115, will be blue, but I am glad this one is.

Scott, thanks for an excellent review! I have been thinking of different options for a grab and go scope that could travel with me on an airplane. Your review has helped place this SV Nighthawk Next Generation as a serious contender. I even like the blue color!

Scott (or other users of this scope), I would be curious to know what is the highest magnification you've been able to use? On nights when seeing permits, is 200x a realistic possibility on the moon, planets, and tight double stars?

Also, I would like to know how it stacks up against refractors of similar aperture and price on splitting tight doubles.

Thanks again. I'm looking forward to your upcoming review(s).

Thank you Scott for a wonderful review! Glad to see you enjoyed the SV80ED with the Feathertouch! Also glad to see that you also own other SV scopes. They are all a joy to own and observe with.

I believe in the 50X/inch rule so in an 80mm scope you should be looking at 160X for useful mag without dimming too much. That being said I used my BO/TMB 3.2mm planetary repeatedly in the NHNG and it was nice and sharp at 175X.

I haven't run it against other 80mm scopes (besides the original Nighthawk).

Okay, I have to start by getting something out of my system.

Scott can write?!?

(If I hadn't said that, Scott would think I didn't like him anymore. And my head would have exploded.)

The answer to the question is, of course, yes. Scott can write. I can't judge this review by the technical aspects of the telescope involved (I use one of those big thingies with the mirrors at the butt end). But I know a little bit about writing, so I know a well-written review when I read one, and I just read one. Concise, clear, honest and to the point, with the enthusiasm for the topic I would have expected from the SRF himself.

Nicely done, Mr. Beith. Looking forward to the next one.

*** Looking for constructive criticism ***

It was requested on a different forum that I include more specifics about the eyepieces used in the reviews. I will include that information on upcoming reviews I produce.

What other things do all of you want to see in my reviews?
I can't promise I will change my style of writing, but if it is something I can incorporate into my reports (like more EP info) I would be glad to do it.

So where can I improve?

Thanks for a good, honest review. I am looking for a small telescope for both astro and terrestrial use and, from your review, it looks like the SV NHNG would work fine without costing too much.

Nice job Scott. Will you be hanging on to your older Nighthawk?

One of my older Nighthawk's is going to someone as a gift, and I haven't determined the fate of the second one.
The SV80ED's dewshield fits my H-Alpha adapter perfectly, and I don't know if I will be maintaining 4 scopes or if I will be cutting back to just 3.
