Hello again, Here is another image I obtained from the evening of the 16th May, from my back garden in Dunedin. It was taken with my OMC200 and opticstar 122 ccd. The area imaged shows Plato on the bottom edge, the small crater just above Plato exhibits some banding on the walls.the terminator runs along the floor of J Herschel and shows that the floor is not as smooth as it appears when the sun angle is higher. This crater is so large (64 miles/160Km that only half its floor is illuminated. The group of craters above are Anaxamines43miles/82 kms in diameter, and Philolaus 43miles/73kms in diameter. The complex nature of its walls can be seen from the shadowing on the walls. As can be seen the entire area seems to be covered in rubble. I presume this is from one of the major impacts that formed one of the mare basins. Anyway, thank you for looking, keep well. Larry

Hi Larry,
Thanks for the image. Am I detecting a few distinct albedo features on in Plato- craterlets?
Thanks,
Matt

Hi Larry, very good catch! And that info is great you gave of the pic.
Matt - I would agree upon those features you suspect to be visible. That is very nice catch, too!
Also a magnificient sight is (to the left of the Anaximenes) that Philolaus central mountain, reaching to the heights of 3400 meters. Just look at it shining above the shadows cast by the crater wall!
Be well!

Matt and Timo, Thank you for the kind words, This area is quite interesting to view, especially through the eyepiece as I find the eye gives a better 'span' of light and dark on the moon than imaging does. (At least with my efforts), what I enjoy doing is having a good look through my telescope and then catch some images, so I can 'revisit' the observing that I did by looking at the images when it is cloudy. (more often than not, it seems!)Anyway, keep well all. Larry

Hi Larry, tried some additional tinkering on your pic.
Adjusted the contrast and brightness a bit plus applied gently some unsharp mask. Would you like to see the tinkered pic posted - to judge whether that span on light and dark be improved a bit on your taste by this kind of tinkering? Or perhaps you could apply some tinkering yourself?
Be well!

Hello Timo, Thank you for your interest, by all means have a play around with the image if you like. I do not mind at all. Keep well. Larry

Thanks Larry, so, this is the result of the additional tinkering. This may be a bit on the dark side of the scale, but perhaps some fainter formations (for instance those luminosity changes on Plato) stand out a bit stronger...

Thank you Timo, The tonal range seems to be improved in the image, it was good of you to take the time to do this. Keep well. Larry
