Quick AstroPlanner Question
      #2406489 - 05/19/08 04:54 PM

I have downloaded the demo version of AstroPlanner, and it looks quite promising so far. However, I can't seem to get my FOV screen to display anything useful - it seems to show a few bright stars in the area, and the outline of a Messier object if appropriate - there's no background in the FOV. It must be possible to do this, as can be seen here:

This FOV clearly has quite a few stars visible, as well as showing the object in question. This is the sort of view I was hoping to see, as it will be easy to compare what's on screen with what I see in the scope.

So, the question is, how do I get the FOV to display like that? Is it a feature that I need to be registered in order to use?

Many thanks,

Dave.

If I recall correctly (I haven't used AP in a while as my oldish Windows laptop runs it v. slowly) the FOV screen will display / update acc. to what catalogs you have selected in the Use | Catalogue | Label window. My suspicion is the demo only comes with a limited star catalog & that you would need to register to get the more extended catalogs.

Again, that's my best guess based on memories. AP is a fabulous program, and Paul (the developer) is very open and receptive. You might find the Yahoo! group for AP useful.

That sounds about right . I had a look at the catalogues section, and you can't add any unless you are a registered user. Since it's quite cheap, I think I might splash out for it.

Thanks,

Dave.
