Should arrive via FedEx on Saturday! I can hardly wait. Too bad the eyepieces I ordered will probably not arrive until Tuesday. I guess I can get it all ready to go for next weekend...or at least look at the moon or some wide field stuff with the stock 26 mm. I am really happy.
Thanks to everyone who helped me make the decision to go with this scope. It is great to have a group of people in the know to help. I greatly appreciate all the input from the group (including what I read in all the old threads).

Thats great news, I'm sure you find it to be a good scope.
About the 26mm EP. When I'm just looking around for something to look at I use a 25mm Ep. So I'm sure you can find something to occupy your time with, it will also be a good time to learn how to use the scope and handbox.
good luck OD

Thanks. I anticipate a bit of a learning curve before I can actually be able to use this thing in the dark. I'll be happy to figure out how to get it aligned and start finding things...regardless of the mag at which I see them.

Mine arrived today. It was easy to assemble and to get up and running. I only had a few minutes to use it before the clouds closed in, but from the tinkering I've done so far it's going to do exactly what I wanted; a nice, easy to use visual telescope.

Congratulations on the new scope, and hope you have clear skies when it arrives! I have one on order too, so maybe we both will get lucky with first light!

Mine just arrived via FedEx a couple of hours ago. Got it set up, calibrated the finder, and I trained the drives and such. Then clouds rolled in and it started to pour. No clear skies until maybe Monday night. *BLEEP*. So far I am impressed with what I have...but it would have been nice to look at some things.

Congratulations on your new telescope. Mine's outside cooling off right now (I'm about to head out). While you've got some time you might want to tinker with the telescope a bit. I made a dew shield for mine today and I learned how to turn the brightness of the red-dot finder down. It defaults to a daylight setting which is way too bright for use at night.
Have fun!
P.S.
I just stepped inside for a bit from gawking at Saturn at 160x using my Orion binoviews; you're gonna love this scope! Another thing you might do while waiting for the weather to clear is to strategically add spots of Velcro around the mount to hold the AutoStar controller. I placed a large patch of the felt on the back of my handbox and patches of the hooks to the left and right of the north leg both on the tripod and on the base, and a small patch on the south side of the mount. If you can find black Velcro it blends into the mount fairly well.

Thanks for the tips. The lack of a holder for the autostar was the first thing I noticed after setting up. Hard to imagine meade didn't think of this. I left the red dot on bright so I can train the drives tomorrow (if the rain stops)...but it is helpful to know I will probably want to adjust it before my first evening session. I have been playing withe the autostar a bit. Sort of a clunky interface at first, but after a little time in hand it is fairly slick.
