I've had a pair of 15X70 Little Giant binocs for several years and rate them highly for optical performance. I hand hold them at the objective end for impressive views of the night sky. Contrast is excellent, and the coatings must be too, since M42 is a bright lime green as seen thru them. This is the only DSO I've seen with obvious color, thru any scope or binoculars. Are the Little Giants as highly regarded in the astro community as I feel they should be?

Hello Frank ,
This model has got high marks from astro observers far more knowledgable and experienced than I will ever be , but based on the specimen I bought six years ago , I'm afraid I just cannot positively recommend the model to anybody .
I have spent many hours comparing mine against quite a few other binoculars , both at day and night , some costing far more and some far less , and even putting aside the pitifully short eye relief , in just about every optical category I can think of , it has come out disappointingly poorly against most of them by comparison .
This includes a 10 x 50 Bresser costing less than £10 !
Perhaps I just happen to have a bad specimen , but to my eyes , the actual TRUE field of view is well below the stated 4 degrees , SHARP true field of view is no more than around 1.5 degrees , CA is as pronounced as it is through any other binoculars I've ever looked through , and it just just not seem to " snap into focus " .
In fact , whenever I use it , I find myself constantly fiddling with the focus to try to find a truly satisfying view .
For a Japanese made , " one piece " FMC Porro of relatively stout construction , with Bak 4 prisms , for a price equivalant to $300 , I expected a lot more than I got .
I'm genuinely very pleased that you like yours though , and sincerely hope no - one else suffers as much with ANY binoculars as I have with this one !
Regards Kenny

I purchased mine "used", last year, for my birthday, and have been very satisfied.
It was my first 70mm binocular and I have been more than pleased with the Orion 15x70mm Litttle Giant II, as I paid only $155 for it.
I use it on a regular basis for both daytiime and nighttime viewing.
Eye relief is kinda short, but so is the E.R. on my Barska 30x80mm. Both are enjoyable to use.
