Recommended Eyepieces for Dobs
      #2429086 - 05/30/08 12:37 PM

I would appreciate a discussion about what eyepieces (type, brand, model, power) are recommended for usage with a Dob.

Please indicate the focal length of the scope of whatever eyepieces you discuss.

Thanks

It would help if you noted what size primary and f/ratio.

My scope is a F/4.92 10" dob. I have either Hyperions or Stratus eyepieces and these work very well with my scope. There is some deteriation of the view towards the edge of the field of view but it does not bother me much. I did just get a coma corrector to help with that but have not had a chance to test it.

The Dob has not been purchased yet.

This is the typical chicken and egg problem...what comes first?

I haven't spent the money yet and I am looking for a good compromise.

I do not wish to purchase a Dob where I am then forced to invest significant money in expensive eyepieces..which seems to be a typical situation that short focal Dobs seem to cause.

The Hyperion/Stratus eyepieces are $130 new or $85-100 used on Amart. The 9mm and 6mm Orion Expanse eyepieces work well for "fast" dobs for approx $50 new ($40 used).

This thread is very vague and a near duplicate of another in this forum. Therefore I am locking it.
