Sadly, I made the tough decision against OSP this year. My daughter and grandson(!) are coming out from Cleveland, arriving when I would have left for OSP. She's willing to "do the OSP" but I just don't think it would work out with a 2 y.o.'s sleep schedule, plus there'd be a serious space problem in the truck.
We'll go camping elsewhere instead.
Ya'll have a good time under clear skies!

Depends, Tom, whether you want people or privacy---you know the layout there. If I had the choice, I'd be down by the trees...but I don't.

At Table I usually camp in the trees but set up my scope closer to others. I may try that tact at OSP.
Can a guy still find a good campsite on Thursday or do I need to arrive on Wednesday for that?

If past years are any indication, the 802 road will be full by Wednesday. There will be plenty of good sites in the tree lines and on the two spur roads off the end of 802. The area on the east end of the 800 road near the shower truck tends to fill up late. Keep in mind the Forest service rules about camping in the trees - one trip in, one trip out with a vehicle. Cars must be parked within 100 feet of the road.

Hi everyone - pondering idea of attending OSP, but I wouldn't be able to arrive until Friday morning from Seattle.
So...
1) would I be on the outskirts and how close are the porta potties in that case? And the food (but not in the order)?
2) what is the student/youth program like? Are there many children attending? I have girls, 4.5yo and 6.5yo, who will be attending their 3rd Table Mountain this year and love the day time fun.
3) is it worth it for two nights or should I wait until next year when I can do four or five?
4) Also - paying via Paypal - do you need a PayPal credit card or just a PayPal account(I have an account)? - How does that work?
Thanks,
Myles

There are a gazillion porta - potties spread around. The food is centrally located. The kid's program isn't as good as TMSP (I've tried to convince Larry, the director of OSP to go up and check out the kids' program up in Ellensburg) but it still is worthwhile. My daughter goes to TMSP every year because it is non-stop fun. At OSP, she has time to get into trouble . There ARE lots of kids.
It is definitely worth going for two nights...just to experience the uber dark skies...AND the mars dust .
As long as you have a paypal account with money in it, you can use it to pay your fees.

Well, I have been flip/flopping - OSP, no OSP, MBSP instead, camping at the ocean, stay home, etc.
We can't do Mt Bachelor the week after TMSP so we decided and registered for OSP.
Unfortunately, we might not arrive until Friday after midday. Arriving on Thursday is an outside possibility if I can work an early morning 1/2 day.
Well, two nights should be great and will give us an indication if we want to come back next year for four nights.
Any tips for a newcomer to OSP is appreciated. We are my wife, 6.5yo daughter, 4.5yo daughter, and myself. All attending our 3rd TMSP this year and first OSP

Tom,
that would be fun to touch base at OSP. I really got to get to some of the casual PNW outings that the CNers come up with here. But with work on-call every 3rd week, PNW weather, and full moon phases, it makes me wonder why I took up this "sport".
Well TMSP and OSP this year should help.

Hi Myles - and welcome to OSP!
I run the Information tent at OSP and I will be happy to help you any way I can. When you arrive, come on up to the 800/802 intersection and we can help you find a decent spot to set up. Are you going to be tent camping or RV'ing? RV's are limited to the 800 and 802 roads. The 802 fills up pretty early Tuesday or Wednesday sometimes!
If you look at the site map on the OSP website: (www.oregonstarparty.org/sitemap.htm) the 800 road between the registration tent and the activities tent is a long stretch and will have a lot of space open even by Friday.
If you are tent camping, bring some green indoor/outdoor carpet(the cheap stuff from Home Depot) and a garden rake. The carpet for dust control in front of your tent and the rake for clearing rocks from the area under it. You will also want some of that carpet under your scope as well - the dust is pervasive after a few days!

Thanks for the welcome and tips Greg. I've got one square of astro-turf - so look's like I will picking up another one. I wouldn't have thought of the rack - that's a good tip.
We are tent campers with ample shade equipement - screen house and umbrella.
Really looking forward to OSP and hope score another day off for a Thursday arival.
- Myles
PS - looks like I scored Thursday off so I will be able to enjoy 3 nights - but I might pay for with weekend work the week before.
