Finally got a scanner. Learning curve for Silverfast software is like learning Photo Shop. You can adjust every aspect of each slide, checking and adjusting Histograms - levels and curves - hue and saturation - before you even scan the image at high resolution. Needless to say - it's a mindful, but thanks to Nightfly, I've managed some reasonable scans.
These scans are with the basic Scan Wizard 6, with a few adjustments in either PS, or PixInsight which is a freeware program and a great little program.
You will see tracking issues due to flexure, and occasionally pressing the wrong direction arrow. Yes, you get stupid when really tired. These scans are from my efforts 2007 in May. Lost many of my notes, but I recall most of the details.

Igor,
This is a good showing. The Ring Nebula image shows stars just beyond 14th magnitude, nice. Glad to see your enjoying your new Pentax gear. The Moon is out of the way and I suspect you and I will be getting very little sleep!

Those are some great images for starting out. Mine weren't that good my first couple roles. Are you sure that is NGC 7000? I thought that was the North American Nebula and it doesnt look like that area of the sky to me. With a 20 minute exposure you should have picked up at least some of the nebula along with the milky way and some other star clouds. Forgive me if I am wrong it is late and my brain is about fried.

Hi
It seems that your first image need to be channel by channel registered (split the channels and then use the green as reference).

Thanks. Interesting results from the scanner on those bright stars. I will try that channel splitting as I get better with Photo Shop.

nice to see ya Nebhunter its been a while and the pics look great. i hope to get my projector tomorrow but have no slides to show in it but this is okay i can wait until i make some or get some. i hope to try using this Olympus, pus camera my dad let me borrow once i get the adapter for my mount made all i lack is the scope so i can make the shoe for it. then i think i am going to mount this on top the scope and try a few shots with it. the camera is a newer Olympus bit it is not the om-1 like i want cause you can only do short exposures with it. he was not using it and it needed to get used so he gave it to me. i am a lucky guy but i still need an om-1 for sure for long exposure stuff. i found a place to process the film and will talk to the people when i take the roll in and tell them what to do with it. i got a number of lenses with it and going to try them all on something not sure what yet. it is raining now and once it clears i hope to get out. doc

Those are still some good images! I haven't tried a globular yet and don't know if my meager mount will track well enough for that small of field or not. I need more practice at guiding before I try that. The skies here in Tennessee haven't been good at all year and I haven't had the camera out since September. Im just enjoying all the images here for the time being. Hopefully the skies will clear up before the summer humidity moves in and I can post a image or two.

Hopefully the skies will clear and you will get a chance to do some imaging. We need all the time we can get at this difficult hobby.

I may have found the problem. I had the Digital Ice turned on without knowing it. Previous scanned images of the moon were terrible. The posted image had it off, but also scanned with CMYK instead of RGB. Big difference.

The seeing was good that night. I was able to focus thru the viewfinder and did not bother with the STI device. I will hopefully have better images now that the scanner appears to be figured out.
