I "RAN" a BBS...
Used my Amiga, running Excelsior! (Which I owned and still own the source code rights to)... I was the main support site with 40 or so software users (other E! BBS's) calling me regularly for their mail (Fidonet and our own "E-Net"). My BBS was the FIRST in the area to boast a 44k modem!

My first modem was 300 baud. I used it on my 8086 4mhz system. I was in heaven when I upgraded to a 1200 baud one.

Yeah, those were the days when knowing ANSI extended character codes could make for some nice, blocky and colored screen art.

My first modem 27 years or so ago was a 300 baud acoustic coupler - really loud noises would cause data errors. Fun times.

I ran a BBS as well back in the early 1980s.
An Atari 800 modded out with 512k of memory, a one meg external memory device, four floppy drives, and a Hayes 1200 modem. Ran it all on my own GreyBBS software.
Those were the days.
