Our post-Haiti period has been up and down with a very bad cold, so observing nights have come and gone with not enough energy to put up and sketch. We did get one night together on NGC 3079 where we enjoyed some time together. There is something special about that and we often comment about it to each other. After almost 35 years together (minus a day) it's still special.
The next day we were doing a bit of work; Linda was engaged inside and I happened to step out to see the southern sky filled with a cirrus fan that had color at one point. The color only lasted a couple minutes and was gone. The waning moon was bit above the WSW horizon at the same time. I did a quick sketch ( 2 Sketches Together - Naked Eye
That evening the cold I got on the trip to Haiti made its way to Linda so she could not observe. I got on the SV-102ED to just see a couple things and go to bed. The evening was pretty; I wanted to simply observe at low power. The objects were pretty so I grabbed a sketch page and did 4 quickies. Pardon the lack detail since they were quick and my eyes are not that good, but it was a real pleasure to get them. EP sketches with 4 inch refractor
All of this teaches me a well known lesson: be ready to sketch anytime. Whether the time is planned or unplanned, observing is so much richer when the mind is exercised to see and record what is seen. And to do some of it knowing the one who made the heavens and to do it with someone special: memorable.

Roland,
Beautiful work on these sketches. I especially like the M64 and M5 sketches. Your cloud sketch is very gossamer and I noticed your moon sketch is inverted from the horizon view.
I hope you and Linda get over your colds and as always thanks for posting your sketches which I enjoy very much.

My mistake on your moon sketch, I see it is not a morning sketch as I originally thought. My hat is off to anyone that sketches the moon with the sun nearby in daylight.

Excellent sketch of this peculiar galaxy. I have observed this galaxy before and found it's warped shape to be obvious even at low power. The displacement of the nucleus to one side of the disk was well rendered.

Thanks all. 3079 sort-of reminds me of another; it is peculiar. Of course, with a c8, the aperture limits some of the detail we would get with a 12.5. As for the moon, Frank, daytime is nice to grab it and I understand how that might be unusual in some environments.
