Which Flexible Focuser?
      #2438471 - 06/03/08 11:39 PM

Which flexible focuser should I get for my ETX90? The CNC Supply (Scopetronix) or one of those available on the bay for half the price? Any input would be most helpful.
Thanks,
Roger

I bought one on EBay for my ETX90PE. It is quite OK.
Kind regards

I bought one of these for the 125. Works OK--like similar ones I've tried, turning the end knob causes the fleible shaft to twist as well as turn, introducing some backlash. I'd prefer a moto-focus, but this is a lot cheaper, and is certainly better than trying to focus without one when the tube as at higher elevations.

Rod,

The Meade 1244 electronic focuser ends up being only a couple of bucks more than the CNC Supply flexible focuser. Maybe I should just go for that?

Roger

I probably would. Just make sure this focus motor is compatible if your ETX is a PE!

Bought one on eBay. 1st one was "LOST" and after a couple of emails (with no response) the seller finally responded and sent out another that works just fine. The 1st one never did arrive. I left the seller a NEUTRAL feedback, and he left me NEGATIVE feedback for being "A Sore Old Buyer".....LOL

BTW, eBay is going to only allow sellers to leave POSITIVE feedback (or none at all) so buyers are not afraid of this type of retaliation from a seller.

Make sure it comes with an allen wrench (mine didn't) or you still have the ones that came with your scope, or a really small one in your toolbox, as you most likely will need to remove your focuser knob and put it on the flex wire.

Built one using a electrical binding strip barrel as the focus shaft to vinyl coated aircraft cable connector and installing the Meade focus knob on the end of the aircraft cable. Had the binding strip in my electronics supplies, aircraft cable available locally (less than $1 for the 10" required). Assembled and installed in 10 minutes. The specifics are on Mike Wiesners site.
